Martingale Collars as shit tzu Collars
some shit tzu dogs and puppies are able to slip out of a collar when they pull away from a leash or away from someone holding their collar. For these dogs, a martingale collar is recommended to keep them from slipping out of their collar and running away.
What size of collar is best for a shit tzu?
Most shit tzus need a 10-14" collar, Please measure your dog for the best fit. If you are buying a collar for your shit tzu puppy, please let us know the puppy's current neck size and expected mature neck size (average parents sizes, if that information is available) and we will do our best to makre sure the collar can be adjusted to grow with him. Below are listed the most common collars bought by shit tzu owners, see selection of other size collars if neccessary.
Are fabric collars strong enough for a Standard shit tzu ?
If properly fitted, absolutely. Our fabric collars are quadruple reinforced and triple stitched. Large and Extra Large collars also have a core of even stronger webbing.
Will your collars irritate my shit tzu 's skin or pull hairs?
Some shit tzus have frequent skin problems and inflamations. The synthetic of nylon can irritate skin and the oil of leather can clog pores and cause sores, but CollarGirl.com's reinforced cotton and cotton blends are much gentler on skin. Because they are made of cotton, our collars just get softer with use. Martingale collars are less likely to pull hairs than choke chains, but can still irritate the area if the dog pulls consistently. An advantage of a martingale collar in this area, however, is that instead of staying tight all the time and consistenly pulling hairs and rubbing sore spots, the martingale hangs slightly looser when not in use. This feature allows skin to breathe while your pet remains safe and wearing identification. (Please note, martingale collars should be adjusted so that when the martingale loop is pulled, the collar tightens around the neck but does not choke)
