So you got your dog home from the shelter or rescue
and all the sudden she's a new dog? Fluke, or seeing
the true reflection of her personality? Well, most newly
adopted dogs have a very tangible adjustment period.
The dog you have one day after bringing her home can
be very different from the dog you have one month later.
Every dog is different, but generally it takes a week
to ten days for a dog to feel comfortable in your home,
about two weeks for the dog to detox from being assaulted
with the vaccines, bacteria, and low quality dog food
most encounter in a animal shelter, two to three weeks
to feel "safe" and de-stress from the high
stress environment on a shelter, and 6 weeks to three
months for the dog to actually settle in and show it's
true personality. These timelines are just ballpark
figures, and are affected by how long the dog was in
the shelter, the conditions of its previous life, age,
whether it had ever been a housedog, etc.
