Coming or going you can always spot a Bashkir Curly horse! Bashkir Curlies are a rare breed, native to the USA, that exhibit a curly mane, tail, and often body hair. Though some curly horses exhibit curly traits more so than others, the curly mane can fall in waves, ringlets, tight coils, or thick dreadlocks. The curly tail is straightened somewhat by gravity, but is usually wavy and may be coiled. In the winter, the body of a Bashkir Curly is covered with tight ringlets of soft, curly hair. In the summer, some Curlies show no signs of curly body hair, while others have a crushed velvet or marcel wave appearance to their summer coat. The Bashkir Curly is a versatile horse that comes in a variety of coat patterns, sizes, builds, and some are even gaited. Bashkirs can range from small stocky ponies, to large sporthorse builds and because of the variance can be found in a variety of equestrian sports.
