Some dogs, for various reasons, chew on their leash
before, after, or during walks. To stop your dog from
chewing or biting at his or her leash you can treat
the end of the leash with a liquid that will make the
leash taste bad. Making the leash taste bad will help
the dog retrain itself not to chew on leashes.
To stop your dog from biting at his leash you can use
a commercial spray such as "bitter apple"
or "triple bitter" or even simply dash Tabasco
sauce along the lower 1-2 feet of the leash. When your
dog tries to bite at the leash they will get a bitter
or hot taste instead of the satisfying feeling of biting
through a leash. Neither method will hurt your dog but
will retrain them. Be sure to use a inexpensive or dark
colored leash when training your dog not to bite on
the leash with this method.
